With fifteen years working a variety of positions in the information technology field, Joe Reiter has seen and heard everything there is to see and hear. And now he's sharing it all with you.

From billion dollar hedge funds to small banks to massive trading firms bogged down in bureaucracy, read on as the curtain is pulled back to reveal just how much luck is involved in keeping a billion dollar company's servers from imploding.

Marvel at how technical people keep a straight face when presented with a CFO's malfunctioning laptop that spent a weekend buried in sand at the beach because her daughter didn't bring any beach toys. Cringe at a managing director giving a lesson on e-mail, a free service provided by the United States Postal Service. Shake your head at the support manager who reboots a production server midday to fix a problem with a slow-opening file.

A definitive collection of technical support horror stories, Reboot Your F*cking Computer will make you feel better about not knowing what the cloud is or how people store their pictures in it without getting wet.

Reboot Your F*cking Computer v20 eBook Joe Reiter

Read it in one day, couldn't stop. It was great. As an old copier tech I could relate to some stuff of clueless people in positions they had no business being in.
Entertaining and it made me shake my head that people with a title had so much power and be such idiots. Scary to think how many in the business world are from the shallow end of the gene pool.

Reboot Your F*cking Computer v20 eBook Joe Reiter Reviews

This is an amazing book. Very easy read. I finished it in under a day. On the same page as "Don't Tell Mum I Work on the Rigs...She Thinks I'm a Piano Player in a Whorehouse". I highly recommend it!!!
Mr. Reiter offers a very eye opening look inside the world of finance, and the under appreciated people that help make it possible to keep billions of dollars on the move every day.
Enjoyed your writing style.
Sadly, idiots are in every industry, but there are more good people than bad.
Maybe for your next book, a nice murder mystery.
LGR's......
This is my first book review so please bear with me. By writing this book, Joe has done something that I've only dreamed about. He's catalogued every inane boss and coworker that he's had the misfortune of working with over the years and written a funny and sometimes touching tale that's a cross between PC Magazine and Catch-22. Follow the adventures of Louise, who doesn't understand that you can't email someone using a street address. Zippy, who is anything but. Blondie, who knows nothing but is always right.
As a computer nerd, I can relate to everything Joe put up with. Being able to write a book about it is better than seeing a therapist. If you're a geek or someone who relates to dealing with stupid people, or you just enjoy funny stories, give the buy button a click. It's only 5 bucks. What do you have to lose?
And yet alarmingly scary! If I didn't already know people like the ones mentioned here, I would have never believed it.
Entertaining, but those of you in tech support that pick this up be warned! It's more about office politics and survival than systems themselves, but a working knowledge does help when reading this. The systems are a decade old, but that does not cut into the entertainment factor. Enjoy.
If Reiter hadn't changed names of individuals, by now he would have been sued many times over for this. Very readable. Funny, in a sad way. (If you're a big-picture person, it's hard to read all these instances of stupidity, inflexibility and privilege and not start forming a larger picture of who gets rewarded and for what.)

Reminds me of how much activity in business is completely, comically unproductive. Just as I saw when I had a "real job."

Because I don't have a great memory and there were many, many characters, I wish some of the major characters had been described or their positions mentioned more. A few key characters become vivid, though, just by how well Reiter captures their ways of speaking.
Read it in one day, couldn't stop. It was great. As an old copier tech I could relate to some stuff of clueless people in positions they had no business being in.
